How is the faithful city become a spiritual totalitarianism!

Isaiah 61:7 - King James Version (KJV)

<7> For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them. 

For your combat with evil to purify your heart, your baking the manna, you shall have charity from the Lord in its place. For your combat with falsehood to purify your mind, your seething/boiling the manna, you shall have faith -- the understanding of charity -- from the Lord in its place. Therefore there will be a double portion of hidden manna  -- the marriage of charity and faith -- on the 7th day which is Heaven and conjunction with the Lord.

This is why this happened, to represent the above message in narrative as in poetic form: Exodus 16:22-23

<22> And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. <23> And he said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

As is God's standard procedure in the Word, there is an evil twin to the positive context of the word "double"; which when upright indicates joyous abundance of good and truth. This evil twin happens at the end of the cuckoo clock or charity life cycle of the Church, when owls hoot in the night sky and dragons make their dens where there is no man, a land not inhabited; a desolate place:

<6> Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

Works proceed from the will, from the heart. Our deeds come out of our hearts, our wills, expressing in life like the iceberg's tip. The heart has thus been mentioned in the reversed position, as evils in the will which flow into works. The mind has also been mentioned, for that is the cup which she hath filled. There is thus, following our rubric, an abundance of profanation of charity from God and profanation of understanding from God; the point at which there is no more covenantal marriage of good and truth, for the oil and wine have been hurt.

This is known in the Writings as lex talionis, the law of retaliation, the return upon the heads of wicked, specifically oh-how-religious-we-are people of the evils and falsities with which they have afflicted and blighted others' lives. Fill to her double.

What is more wicked than damaging the links between the Love and Light of Jehovah and the individual? What is more wicked than searing the heart and endarkening the mind on purpose in order to secure power over the souls of  stampeding slaves? This is why Jesus gets so upset with Lady Babylon, who enjoys impeding the development of your conscience and your rationality.

Natural totalitarianism is, to be sure, a drag! But spiritual totalitarianism is an order of magnitude more malignant and insidious.

Think you: what sequence did the delivery of Jesus to be crucified follow? Why, it followed the sequence religious condemnation --> civil condemnation! It agrees exactly with the rubric whereby spiritual totalitarianism is the primary impetus behind the outcome; which of course the Gospel meticulously underlines with the drama of Pilate and his wife attempting in their several ways to prevent it.

<1> Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: <2> But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

If anyone prevents the optimum development of your heart and mind as known and published from God, this is the ultimate profanation of the sacred. For it neither enters into the Kingdom of Heaven nor suffers others to enter therein. It is about as helpful as a heart attack and an epileptic seizure happening both at the same time, all because someone wanted to obtain carnal power over your affections and cognitions for nothing but selfish advantage.

<13> And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.

If you think about it, obtaining carnal power over people's hearts and minds does not really have anything to gain from showing the maddened, stampeding humans how to think rationally and react calmly to life situations. This would be altogether too focusing, when if you want slaves what you do is you addict them to evil passions and worthless ideation.

The addiction of people to evil and error serves a certain type of power hungry madness, religious domination from the love of self and the world: Babylon. 

Think you for a moment about how the mob gets whipped up in carnal life! It gets whipped up to fear something, whipped up to hate someone, whipped up to ridicule someone. This does not happen for no reason, it happens because it keeps the maddened and stampeding slaves from thinking and feeling such thoughts and feelings as would order their lives from the optimum spiritual and natural standpoint; which would be awfully inconvenient if your actual intention were to grow a crop of slaves and deploy them. You sort of want 'efficient vegetables', not rational and loving people whose liberty is charity and faith from God. You can kind of see why Babylon has to lust precisely to pour gasoline on evil desires in your heart. It's all about whipping up the mob spiritually and naturally in ways appropriate to each.

<1> And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. <2> And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. <3> For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

Notice the "power and glory" there. This marker phrase refers to the Lord's coming into the world, which happens when the inversion of the Old Church reaches its crescendo, in order to establish a New Church.

The spiritual totalitarianism of Babylon the great wants its maddened slaves to be addicted to the spiritual equivalents of pokey machines, not pursuing the conjunction of charity and faith and the Lord. This passage just quoted is full of predicates of the heart and mind, the platter and cup, which are woven together like a helix of doves.

This is what has on occasion been called a predicate helix, and to appreciate its intricacy it does to mentally associate each predicate of the heart and mind so as to see their distinct settings and interrelations.

The "nations" are affections in the heart which may be good or evil, while "drunk", "wine", "wrath", and "fornication" are all predicates of the mind, for instance. This indicates that those to whom these spiritual falsehoods were given were unable to apply truths of God to evils in the will; for all that unclean nonsense was essentially filling the spaces meant to be used for charity and the ideation of charity.

To what may this be likened in natural life? It is like a casino owner who has more to gain by setting up instructions on how to use pokey machines than by distributing literature on the perils of gambling addiction. Or again, it is like a bar owner who has more to gain from facilitating drunkenness than from warning others of the dangers of alcoholism. 

In sum, various Churches in spiritual history like but not limited to the Jewish Church and the Christian Church have arrived at points where they are no longer facilitators of being born again but spiritual totalitarians. As is evident, spiritual totalitarianism is the very antithesis of the "faithful city" and well deserves the name of a harlot; for God wants liberation and education, not enslaving and endarkening, of His very nature. And those who are contrary to this nature are none of His.
