I will discover thy skirts upon thy face

One will put a number of verses side by side so that the correspondences and Heavenly marriages, upright and reversed, may be seen clearly and as equivalent to one another: Nahum 3:5

Nahum 3:5 - King James Version (KJV)

<5> Behold, I am against thee, saith the Lord of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.

Face means interior, where the real extent of people's love and truth supportive of love lies. To discover someone's skirts involves revealing what they are really like on the inside. To show the nations thy nakedness -- since the correspondence nations reversed is evils and those who are evil -- involves revealing the extent of sin. To show the kingdoms thy shame -- since the correspondence kingdoms reversed involves falsehoods and those who subscribe to them -- involves revealing the extent of error.

Here is the same thing in Jeremiah, with other words used to describe the sin and error filling in of the Heavenly marriage rubric:

Jeremiah 13:26-27 - King James Version (KJV)

<26> Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear. <27> I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?

He has seen adulteries, evils. He has seen neighings, falsehoods. What are neighings? They are the utterances of a horse. What is a horse? A horse is spiritual understanding; the reference to the whole of a horse by referring to the sound which it makes reinforces the falsity of the utterance.

What is adultery? Breaking down of the Heavenly marriage between charity and faith. Adulterating the goods of the Church. What is whoredom? Falsification of the Word and spiritual falsehood. So verses 26 and 27 say, in translation, I have seen your sin and error (stated one way) and your sin and error (stated another way) in your face: your interior, the face with which we will all see face to face once our material bodies have been abandoned and we look on the outside as we are on the inside.

Ah, they are not clean! That is the perfect lead-in to another way the Lord discovers sin and error after He lifts up some skirts:

Matthew 23:27 - King James Version (KJV)

<27> Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

Here the Heavenly marriage is again reversed, just like in Jeremiah and Nahum, so as to refer to religious people who have gone bad and are full of sins and errors which prevent their drawing close to God and being healed and cleaned up by Him.

In this case, the "dead men's bones" are the falsehoods, the error part of the sin and error rubric of the Heavenly marriage reversed; and "all uncleanness(es)" are the sin part thereof, the evils.

What are people like if they trust in dead men's bones? Well, they may just be so blind that they cannot see. What might people do if they are so blind? They might stumble, eh! Jeremiah 13:16

Jeremiah 13:16 - King James Version (KJV)

<16> Give glory to the Lord your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

Trust in divine truth, glory, before your dependence on spiritual darkness forever puts out your eyes so that you can never distinguish between truth and falsehood again.

What are those feet? Those feet are your natural life. If a drunk stops being a drunk because the Word says you can drink but not to be a drunkard, they have cleaned their feet. When Jesus washed His disciples' feet, He was cleaning their lives with the Word voluntarily applied by them to evils in their hearts and behaviors.

If your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, then it helps to know that a mountain refers to love. So if you are in spiritual darkness -- and that means not understanding truths about love -- then you stumble on the mountains!

Because divine truths are truths about love, and endarkening such truths and capacity to recognize them causes stumbling in matters of love, including obedience to our Father's commandments; since that is love as much as nurturance, just as the love of a mother causes her to wash her hands and the bedding involved with the nurturance of her children.

But we were talking about light. What can people not see if they are blind? That their light isn't really. That what they thought was riches, as in the Church at Laodicea, was in fact poverty; spiritually speaking.

Jeremiah 13:12-13 - King James Version (KJV)

<12> Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine? <13> Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

Look at the question they ask! Aww shucks, why are you asking us whether we are aware of spiritual truth or not? Of course we know about spiritual truth!

And then the reply to the rhetorical question comes: and that spiritual truth is actually wine of violence or wine of the wrath, truth reversed, spiritual falsehood which is drunkenness.

Jeremiah 13:14 - King James Version (KJV)

<14> And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the Lord: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.

We have already covered what it means when parents devour their children and children devour their parents; when Manasseh devours Ephraim and Ephraim Manasseh. If people do not correct their sins and their errors as identified by God for their healing, then their sin will promote the multiplying of error; and their error will promote the multiplying of sin; their seared consciences will fry their minds, and their fried minds will sear their consciences.

Speaking of children... If the Church or the individuals within the Church have sons and daughters, this is the multiplication of goods and truths from the Word with them in the practice of their lives. But if the anti-Church or the evil, fake religious people have sons and daughters, something different happens: the multiplication of sins and errors going from bad to worse. Isaiah 57:3

Isaiah 57:3 - King James Version (KJV)

<3> But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the whore.

Aha, adulterer and whore! We already know from the above explanation of adulteration of good, sin, and falsification of truth, error, that this is yet another filling in of the Heavenly marriage reversed as the sin and error rubric.

The sorcerer or sorceress is someone who falsifies the Word, rendering it useless to those who yearn to have truths from God that they may apply to growing in love.

When the falsifier has children, it has children that are evils and falsehoods. And it goes from bad to worse:

Isaiah 14:29 - King James Version (KJV)

<29> Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

When good and truth from God have children, these are generations. And when sin and error from Hell have children, seed of the sorceress, these are also generations.

When sin and error have children from the root of love of self and the world and the falsehood of the serpent, there result still worse generations of the Church and individual thus succumbing: a cockatrice and fiery flying serpent.

Matthew 24:38-39 - King James Version (KJV)

<38> For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, <39> And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

What were these evil people who looked wonderfully religious, these whitened sepulchers in ancient times, doing? They were eating and drinking, making sin and error part of their spiritual bodies. They were engaging in adultery and whoredom, abominations and neighing, all uncleanness and dead men's bones.

What were they marrying? They were marrying sin and error and giving birth to the seed of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer (sin) and the whore (error).

What does it say about their knowing? They knew not. They thought they were in good and truth yet were wicked and false; like those in the Jewish Church who said "Do we not of a certainty know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?" Note the certainty ascribed to them! We are certain of matters of the understanding...

Or like those in Laodicea who thought themselves spiritually rich, not knowing that they were miserable and poor and naked; and that God had thus lifted their skirts and revealed the shame of their faces.

One has drawn these interrelating matters out to a sufficient length and tied off the cord. For within this enclosure of correspondences and Heavenly marriages upright and reversed is much for one to think about to apply to one's study of the Word. An attentive reader might find that large swathes of the prophecies, hitherto nothing but gobbledygook, became clearer and clearer; with one stone standing upon another instead of the habitual ruins.
